Hi Cat:
The Co-op has equipment available for fully trained members correct? It seems to have everything a trained member would need for a shoot.
So why when members receive bigger grants say $13,000 to $15,000 or more toward their own creative projects do they not rent from the co-op and put money back into it as it would still cost them so little and considering what they probably have gotten in services and help over the years, seems like a small thing to do.

Dear Jim,
Excellent question!
Now, members will be asked to pay rental if they get bigger grants or if they are paying their crew people a fee or if they are spending thousands of dollars on other equipment from an outside equipment house. The Co-op’s indy rate is so low, it’s the least members can do in these situations.
Because the Co-op is unique from other centres like it who typically charge their members rental for everything, we do want members to value this and give back when they actually have resources.
The free use of equipment or deferral as it is termed is really for those who can’t afford to rent typically.
Great question.

I’m glad to discover the NB Film Co-op Blog. Did anything special inspire its creation, or was it just an idea that you were ready to initiate? This will be a great way to learn about filmmaking activity in New Brunswick & keep up with the latest news. Many cheers from Halifax!

Thank you for your comments Heather.
I created the blog because it seems like a great interactive tool which will enable me to answer questions, interact with members on a regular basis and have members interact with each other, all online!
best,

Adrian Greenlaw
Hi there, My name is Adrian Greenlaw and I will be working on a History Channel project on Base Gagetown. I am an art director with a small specialized team of scenic artists. I am hoping to find a couple of crew members from the area who would like to both earn money and get valuable experiance on set. I am not sure how to go about this but this feels like a great place to start.
